The Saga of the Great Northern Army is a series of poems and chronicles about the invasion of Salia by King Harald Hrósa of Holvika in 437 A.E.
The chief chronicler who wrote about the adventuring army was an Iolan skald by the name of Himer, who lived nearly two centuries after the events he describes. Himer was in the employ of the new rulers of Holvika, the Sturmhjǫri, who were a cadet family of the large Hartharing dynasty. As such, the events described by Himer are subject to tremendous scrutiny and subject to his own cultural and societal biases.
Himer begins the tale with background information about the Hartharing family, the rulers of the city of Holvika, which King Harald was the last king of. After the Great Army is defeated, Himer tells the tale of how the Sturmhjǫri came to rule in Holvika through the life of Hialtr, son of King Knut the People-King.
